Baseball Coaches of China's MLB Development Academy, and Some Other News!

Finally! Some news about MLB in China. Well, its not really news, just some interesting information I wanted to share. Thanks to my friend Phil, he found some micro-blogging articles about the coaches in the MLB development academy. I'll try and give a quick run down on who they are. A lot of pictures from the link.

Bill Thomas
Bill Thomas is one of the head coaches in the MLB development academy in China. Before coming to China, he served as the assistant head coach of Cal Poly Pomona Broncos from 2005 through 2009. He is hard at work training players and cultivating the game (so it says in the article). That is all I can dig up about him. Hopefully he will read this entry and tell me more about his experience in China. Got to give some recognition right?!

Robert Palmer and Manny Navarro
Robert Palmer is the center field coach based in the Wuxi development center and Manny Navarro is the fitness and infield coach. They both played for the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos before coming to China.

David Palese
David Palese is the catching coordinator of the development academy. He was also one of the coaches that went to Manipur, India to promote the game there. There's a documentary called "The Only Real Game" about the story, but I'll stay on track and focus on China baseball.

Those were the four main coaches from the article, but wait, there's more!

You might remember Jesse Litsch who pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays. His career was cut short due to injuries, but that didn't stop him from promoting the game all the way in China. He is currently one of the pitching coaches, and it looks like he's enjoying the hell out of it. He is said to be very funny, but also very strict. I love those kind of teachers! You can check out his twitter here and the micro-blogging article here.

Th other former MLB player is Dave Bush. He had a pretty solid career pitching for the Milwaukee Brewers before retiring in 2013. Similar to Litsch, he is also a pitching coach for the development academy. You can check out his micro-blogging article here! Thank you to all the wonderful coaches for helping those kids in China. Hopefully there will be a Chinese player in the minor leagues soon. It's been too long!

  • Here's a recent article about the development of baseball in China.'s in English so I hope you guys enjoy it!
  • Here's an article about Jane Zhang being the MLB Ambassador this year. I don't know how much of a difference she will make, but she sure is pretty!
  • And finally, some more bad news about the Taipei Dome. Should they demolish the shopping mall or the unfinished baseball dome? Unbelievable. I doubt they would need anymore domes...

I have recently received some e-mails asking about the schedule for CBL. Unfortunately, I haven't found any new information about it, but I will update as soon as possible when I do. Thank you for all the kind e-mails, I feel important! Anyway, there are 2 more weeks until my semester is over so I need to go "HAM" in studying before I give you guys more baseball news. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

April Update: Jane Zhang: New MLB Ambassador for China!

Hey everybody! It's been a while! I will be taking a little break from the blog until May when the CBL season starts. Meanwhile, I'll continue to update my Twitter with baseball news around Asia. I really apologize, but I got a lot of work to do! 加油 to myself!

Anyway, if you guys know who Jane Zhang 張靚穎 is, she will be China's MLB ambassador this year. I'm not sure what this will bring, but she's a pretty famous singer in China. She recently competed in 我是歌手 (I am a Singer), a popular singing show that just ended. I hope she is successful in promoting baseball in China!

Opening Day for MLB is tonight! Baseball is back! I hope you all enjoy Spring. I will be back next month! Smell ya later!
