China Eliminated from the BFA U18 Asian Championship

Team China was eliminated from the BFA(Baseball Federation of Asia) U18 Asian Championship by losing to Japan today. By losing, I mean getting shutout 11-0 and no-hit. They kept the Japanese scoreless for the first two innings, but the rest was history. In fairness, there isn’t a lot of depth in China baseball, so they deserve a little credit for shutting out the Japanese early in the game! They also lost to the Philippines yesterday, so there was practically no chance of advancing to the semi finals.

The tournament, which is being played in Thailand, will finish September 6th. I will update the remaining results once the tournament is over. Here are the results and remaining schedule.

Also, 37 years ago today, Sadaharu Oh 王貞治 smacked his 756th home run which broke Hank Aaron’s record for the most of all time in professional baseball. He would finish his career with 868, which still hasn't been broken yet. If you didn't know, Oh is actually part Chinese and a citizen of Republic of China (Taiwan). Originally from Zhejiang Province, his father moved to Japan in the 1920s and married his mother there. Today, he is the chairman of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks after retiring as a manager in 2008. Here’s to Oh and his Legacy! Thank you!

Update 9/7: Japan defeated Korea 2:1 for the U18 Asian Championship. Taiwan finished 3rd beating Philippines 18:1. Same results, nothing new.

Also, here's an article about Chen Xinjie, the kid who won the MLB reality show in China. He fell in love with baseball watching the Japanese anime "Major"(Randy Johnson is in it!). And his favorite player is none other than Derek Jeter. He's going to train at the Wuxi MLB development academy after the American baseball tour. Good luck to Chen and I hope he'll reach the show one day!
